About Us

The Dahanu Education Trust traces its origins back to 1901, when Shri Gangadharpant Behare, a respected customs officer known for his integrity and dedication to society, began teaching the children of Dahanu with a vision to uplift the community through education. What started as a humble initiative soon grew with the support of committed associates such as Shri Annasaheb Khare, Shri Parshurambhau Phatak, Shri Janubhau Karandikar, Shri Govardhan Lalji Adhiya, Shri Premji Laxman Ponda, and Shri Narottam Giridhar Tanna. Their collective efforts laid the foundation for an institution that initially served just 10 to 15 students, with classes conducted in the bungalow of Laxmanrao Dahanukar under the efficient leadership of secretary Appasaheb Karandikar until 1918.

In 1919, the institution achieved a major milestone by introducing English-medium education from Standards I to V, guided by the contributions of Shri Jamnadas Mehta, Shri Raosaheb Narottam Giridhar Tanna, Shri Tribhuvan Narottam Adhiya, and case manager Shri Date. During this period, secretarial responsibilities were handled by Shri Purushottam Adhiya and Appasaheb Karandikar. Several eminent lawyers, including Shri Appasaheb Kirtane, Shri Annasaheb Khare, Shri Bapusaheb Phatak, and Shri Madhavrao Rege, balanced their legal practice while voluntarily teaching students—a remarkable testament to their commitment and service.

Formally established in 1926, The Dahanu Education Trust has since grown into one of the region’s most respected educational institutions, guided by the motto “The Trust’s Goal is All-Round Development” (संस्थेचा ध्यास—सर्वांगीण विकास). Today, DET stands as the only Marathi medium school in Dahanu Taluka offering education from LKG to XII, supported by around ten academic streams including the Junior College of Commerce (Marathi and English Medium), Junior College of Arts, and the proposed Junior College of Science. The campus provides a serene, nature-rich atmosphere with a large seashore-side playground, modern infrastructure such as the biggest computer lab in the area, a fully digital office, corporate-standard facilities, and comprehensive CCTV surveillance.

DET continues to uphold strong core values of discipline, responsibility, honesty, respect, and teamwork while fostering academic excellence, cultural growth, and sports achievements. In 2023–24, DET students excelled in sports, securing 14 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze medals, including notable performances at the state level. Built on a legacy of vision, service, and commitment, The Dahanu Education Trust remains a pillar of educational progress and community development in the region.
